Aldo Reborn vs InDesign vs Affinity vs Canva

Let's be straight about the other three. On raw layout power, InDesign wins and it is not close. Thirty years of typography live in that toolbar. Affinity Publisher does most of the same work for a one-off price. Canva is in this table because people ask about it, not because it makes bound books: it has no imposition, no print-ready PDF, and it recompresses your photos on the way out.

The question for a photo fanzine is a different one. It is how long it takes before you are holding the first printed copy.

In InDesign or Affinity, a booklet is a project before it is an object. You set up a document. You work out how many pages a folded sheet holds and which page goes next to which. You add bleed, then drag every photo past the trim edge by hand. You compensate the creep so the inner pages don't get trimmed short. You convert to CMYK with the right profile, then export a PDF your printer will actually accept. Change the paper size and a good part of that starts over. All of it is doable. It is also a week of learning that has nothing to do with your photos.

Aldo Reborn does that part without asking you about it. You pick a format, drop your photos in reading order, and export. The pages land on the sheet in the right order. The creep is compensated. The bleed extends your images on its own, and re-extends them when you change it. The colour conversion runs with an embedded FOGRA39 profile. There is no dialog called imposition, because there is nothing for you to set.

So which one should you use?

Take InDesign if you set type for a living, or if a client hands you a spec sheet. Take Affinity Publisher if you want a similar toolset without a subscription and you don't mind building the booklet setup yourself. Take Canva for a poster or a carousel, not for a bound object.
